The 5 Struggles of Liking Cartoons As An Adult

Updated: Feb 27, 2020

There you are, all alone. While you see everyone else paired off, staring at Empire or Power on their television screens. You cling to the one thing that you know best, the animation category on Netflix!

The struggle is real!

It's still not uncommon to get a few odd glances from others, if you're an adult that still loves cartoons. But hey, animations are awesome! They make us laugh, cry, and at times jump out of our seats.

So let's dive into a few situations that us cartoon lovers know all too well.

People assume that you’re immature. You constantly get comments like, “Aren’t you too old for that?"

When you go to the movies, you are the only adult in the theater that doesn't have a kid. Well, this is awkward.

You miss Saturday Morning Cartoons! You remember the days of waking up early on Saturdays to watch cartoons in your pajamas with your super sugary special edition cereal, with the obnoxiously bright colored spoon.

It seems like no one can relate. While everyone wants to talk Entourage or The Wire, you want to talk about the episodes of Gravity Falls or Avatar: The Last Airbender, but everyone just looks at you with blank stares.

But, the people that can relate are not in your age group. Imagine how awkward it is to say, “Dude, that episode of _________ was amazing?" And, the only person that knows what you’re talking about is your 13 year old cousin.

But, just when all hope seems lost, you peer across the room and see someone wearing a Steven Universe t-shirt. You lock eyes and an instant connection is born.
